Dining Student Assistant

Description:

PURPOSE
Provide entry-level food preparation and customer service to customers of UW Dining venues.

TYPICAL DUTIES
• Operate point of sales (POS) system; receive cash, count change, receive Husky Card and debit card payments from customers.
• Review menu and price lists; quote prices of frequently purchased items.
• Assemble, plate, package and/or serve items to customers.
• Assist customers and answer questions regarding menu items, ingredients, location of retail items, current prices, and available goods.
• Bus tables, remove garbage, and clean counters, shelves, fixtures, etc.
• Follow established food safety guidelines, maintain established standards of cleanliness.
• Wash and prepare fruits, vegetables and other food items.
• Assist cooks by opening packaging and apportioning contents.
• Make and stock beverages, including brewed coffee, tea and associated condiments. May make espresso beverages.
• Restock and maintain cleanliness of work and/or service areas.
• Operate and/or clean kitchen equipment. Report malfunctions to kitchen leadership.
• Wash dishes, utensils, pots, pans, and equipment; operate dishwashing machines.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Must be a matriculated University of Washington student taking at least 6 undergraduate credits or 4 graduate credits.

Desk Services Student Representative

Description:

Desk Services Representatives (DSRs) provide front desk services for student residents, HFS staff, and the UW campus community within the residence halls. Successful DSRs are detail- and service-oriented and possess the ability to understand and adhere to complex policies and procedures; accurately handle high volumes of mail and packages; correctly assign keys and building access cards; and solve problems and communicate effectively in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment.
Time Commitment:
DSRs typically work between 12 and 19.5 hours per week (scheduled around classes), have excellent weekend and or evening availability, and must attend mandatory training and quarterly staff meetings. Training includes mandatory online and in-person paid training sessions, in addition to on-the-job training. There is no set employment period, but ideal candidates will be hired and trained prior to the start of UW autumn classes and will be available to work during finals weeks and other break periods. DSRs in good standing have the option of continuing with Desk Services during the exciting HFS summer conference season.
Typical Work:
• Prepare room key packets; check residents into rooms and assign room keys; assign lockout keys and building access cards; assign meeting space keys to staff and guests; process room changes and residence hall checkouts. Maintain accurate key and building access card records by conducting periodic audits.
• Train on the accurate use of Desk Services systems and materials, including SharePoint, Microsoft Office, housing and package tracking databases, cash register, and other office equipment, including electronic and paper resources.
• Provide courteous and professional customer service, directions, etc. to all customers within the residence halls. Positively interact with people from diverse age groups, backgrounds, and cultures.
• Work in a team-oriented setting with other DSRs, student leads, and Desk Supervisors.
• Respond in a timely manner to requests for your quarterly and break period availability for scheduling purposes.
• Receive, process, and deliver mail and packages for residents and HFS staff. Forward or return mail and packages as needed, according to HFS and carrier guidelines.
• Review and respond to various Desk communication systems at the start of and during each shift.
• Be knowledgeable about HFS personnel and University resources to respond to questions from customers. Utilize departmental and university contact information, acting as a liaison between the customer and other appropriate offices.
• Always represent UW in a professional manner, including wearing a name badge and adhering to dress, appearance, and behavior expectations while on shift.
• Attend and participate in mandatory quarterly staff meetings and perform other duties as assigned.
• Abide by and uphold State, City, University, and Housing and Food Services rules and regulations.
Qualifications:
• Enrolled as an undergraduate/graduate student at UW.
• Ability to lift up to 55 pounds.

Bay Laurel Catering Student Catering Server

Description:

PURPOSE
Provide entry-level catered event support, including gathering supplies and equipment, setup, cleanup, and serving.

TYPICAL DUTIES
• Review banquet orders (BEO) for on-time delivery and sets, gather food and equipment items requested on the BEO, transfer items to carts, load carts into vehicles.
• Load and unload catering vehicles.
• Set up tables for catered events with china, flatware and service items.

Description:

OBJECTIVE:
Prepare and serve beverages at our Starbucks locations in the Suzzallo Library and Husky Den. Sustain University standards of honesty and integrity as well as providing quality service to customers.

REQUIREMENTS:

HR Student Assistant

Objective
Provide entry level support for the Human Resources unit by conducting reference checks, assisting with online screening, data entry, filing and other duties as assigned.

Schedule
We are currently looking to hire a student to start as soon as possible and continue to work with us throughout the academic year. Work schedule may vary based on operational needs and class schedule of selected candidate. Weekly minimum of 10 hours, maximum of 19.5 hours during the academic year.

Typical Work
• Review online student applications, checking for schedule availability and basic eligibility.

DESCRIPTION:

UW Housing & Food Services (HFS) is an integral partner in the University’s drive to provide vibrant student life and educational opportunities. The Perks & Recreation Student Assistant is a student staff position with Housing & Food Services that is charged with the administrative functions related to the daily operations of Area 01 Community Center, Fitness Center West, The McCarty Innovation & Learning Lab, or the McMahon 8 Community Center.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Perks & Recreation Student Assistants are responsible for providing superb customer service to residents, staff, faculty, and guests. They will support operations within their respective centers by ensuring the safety of users and equipment, ensuring protocols are followed, completing equipment inventory, and assisting users of the space. Additionally, the Student Assistants will be responsible for following protocol for managing sales through a point of sale system system and proper credentials for user access through an access system.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The Perks & Recreation Student Assistant position places significant emphasis on the growth and development of students as professionals. While the below described experience is preferred, we welcome applications from motivated individuals who may not have prior experience but are interested in working within our facilities.

? All candidates must be available to work at least 10 hours per week.
? Strong communication skills to engage with users, explain equipment and processes, and provide instructions and guidance
? Ability to troubleshoot equipment issues and perform basic maintenance tasks
? Customer service skills and experience providing assistance and support to users
? Ability to work independently and handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
? Attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.

FCW Instructor/ Personal Trainor

OBJECTIVE
UW Housing & Food Services (HFS) is an integral partner in the University’s drive to provide vibrant student life and educational opportunities. HFS provides students with housing that meets their needs, promotes community, supports their academic success, leadership development and social connections, and facilitates campus engagement. The FCW Instructor/Personal Trainer position works in the Fitness Center West location, teaching classes weekly, walking the floor of the space and assisting in day-to-day operations which may include working at the desk. The FCW Instructor/Personal Trainer is a student staff position with Housing & Food Services that is charged with cultivating an environment encouraging individuals to develop their mind and body in a holistic manner. All applicants must be taking undergraduate or graduate classes at the University of Washington to be considered for this position. We are looking for individuals who can teach any physical fitness or mental health well-being, including but not limited to boot camps, physical fitness training, martial arts, dance, guided meditation, Zumba, yoga, barre, or any other pertinent physical activities.
LOCATION
Fitness Center West is a community-focused, interdisciplinary learning destination where the residence hall communities can exercise, engage with one another, relax, and holistically develop.
POSITION SUMMARY
The FCW Instructor/Personal Trainer is a student staff position with Housing & Food Services that is charged with cultivating an environment encouraging individuals to develop their mind and body in a holistic manner.
GENERAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Instruction:
? Teach at minimum one class at the FCW once a week
? Assist with special events or classes as requested by Residence Life or other campus partners.
? Learns and grows in teaching and training, either through experiences in the roles or in an academic capacity.
? Assist in the development of safety and training videos
? Promote special events for all spaces
? Potentially cover shifts at the FCW desk
Personal Training:
The staff member may provide leadership in the following areas:
? Provide personal training to users in FCW, assisting with training them on the use of weights, cardio equipment and other means of exercise
? Provide 50 minute Fitness Coach session for clients
? Maintain at least one hour of personal training time a week
? Be a source of knowledge; educate patrons on services offered
? Actively model and facilitate the expression of responsible use of the space
? Act as a role model and support for users of the space
? Display a genuine interest in the development and success of Fitness Center West
? Maintain a presence within FCW and assisting students with using equipment as necessary
? Role model and display a superb approach to customer service

Teamwork:
The FCW Instructor/Personal Trainer is responsible for contributing to positive working relationships including, but not limited to:

Administrative:
The instructor is responsible for the following operational and administrative duties:

? Complete necessary paperwork and reports
? Research and develop safety and equipment training
? Participate in any necessary meetings
? Cultivate partnerships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
REPORTS TO
The Residence Education Specialist directly supervises the FCW Instructor/Personal Trainer. Through other projects and HFS tasks, other staff members, including Residential Life Administrators and Resident Directors will exercise indirect supervision.
FCW Instructors and personal trainers will receive feedback from their supervisor on a regular basis regarding performance issues, strengths, and areas for growth. This position does not require individuals to have prior certification but it is preferred. This position cannot pay or sponsor an individual to get certification. Position Summary
The Student Videographer/Photographer serves as a contributing member of the Marketing & Communications team and supports the goals and activities of Housing & Food Services (HFS) through collaboration with many team members. Work will include shooting and editing video, storyboarding, photography, and assisting with social media content and strategy for various HFS units.
This opportunity is ideal for students with an interest in marketing, communications, videography, photography, and storytelling. Students will receive authentic experience in a professional environment, including direction and feedback from the Communications and Marketing team.

Responsibilities
• Create video and photo content for HFS, including on-campus retail and residential dining restaurants and cafes, markets, catering, Residential Life events and activities, and business operations.
• Coordinate assigned marketing projects, working collaboratively with the Communications and Marketing team on brand/image, alignment with the Department’s and University’s vision and values, messaging, communications, information design, graphics and photography, ensuring deadlines are met.
• Perform related duties as required.

Qualifications
• Current UW Seattle campus student with interest in video, photography, communications, business, marketing, and/or social media.
• Experience with digital audio, video, and still photography capture devices, including DSLR cameras, is preferred.
• Excellent writing, speaking, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines and exercise good judgment in a dynamic environment.

Collaboration Responsibilities
This position will work closely with the entire Marketing & Communications team, including other student employees, and will receive direction from a unit Manager.
Position Complexities
This position will work 0–19.5 hours per week and will work to meet project goals and subsequent deadlines. Additional duties may be assigned for special events that occur within or outside a regular work schedule.

Working Conditions
• The work is performed in an open office setting with noise and other distractions, as well as various indoor and outdoor locations on the UW campus.
• This position may travel on foot or by vehicle to campus locations.
• This position does not maintain regular office hours at the outset. The work hours will be determined by consultation with the Manager to accommodate the student’s class schedule.

Facilities Design Student Assistant

Description:

The HFS-Student Facilities Design Assistant participates in the planning, design, development, and
coordination of Housing & Food Service projects under the direction of the Senior Facilities Design
Manager and the Director for Facilities and Capital Planning. Ideal student candidate pursuing
Architecture, Interior Design or Building Construction Degree.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in various phases of planning to design process – programming, concept, color/material
selection, specification, documentation, and installation coordination for Housing & Food Services
projects.
- Responsible for revising and updating department AutoCAD drawing files.
- Research information on LEED standards and sustainable resources and provide input and ideas
to facilities managers.
- Attend few design and construction meetings pertaining to HFS North Campus Housing
- Participate in “hands-on” labor associated with renovation projects such as field surveys,
scheduling, punch lists, data collection, furniture relocation/staging, vendor status meetings,
vendor punch list and vendor escorts.
- Maintain accurate drawings/sketches/ photos, product samples, and notes for project record
documentation.
- Communicate project status to Senior Facilities Design Manager.
- Supports other unit projects as assigned & performs related duties to your position.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Works primarily in an office environment, with a Monday-Friday (day) schedule.
Occasional visits to Housing & Food Service building properties and locations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
? Architecture, Interior Design, Construction Management, or CM/ARCH dual degree students
in their sophomore year or above.
? Working knowledge of design related software -- AutoCAD and/or Revit, Adobe Creative
Suite, and Sketch-up.
- Ability to use Microsoft Office products proficiently.
- A valid Driver’s License is required.
- Prior office experience preferred, but not required.

EMPLOYMENT DATES & WORK SCHEDULE
- Start date to be determined.
- During the Academic Year 10 – 19 hours per week. Flexible hours around academic schedule
between 8 to 5 pm Monday through Friday. Up to 40 hours per week may be available during
academic breaks and summer.
- $24.21/hour dependent on prior experience and qualifications.

Position Overview
The Perks & Rec Tech in Training in Training supports Housing & Food Services makerspaces, including The MILL, The 8, and Area 01. In this role, students learn and perform basic maintenance on makerspace equipment such as sewing machines, 3D printers, and laser cutters. They also develop customer service skills by learning HFS policies and procedures, supporting workshops, and assisting users with projects.

This position is ideal for students with experience or strong interest in maker technologies, including 3D printing, laser cutting, sewing, vinyl printing, woodworking, metalwork, embroidery, ceramics, and related disciplines. Some experience is required, but students with developing skills and strong motivation to learn are encouraged to apply.

Upon completion of training, employees are eligible for promotion to the Perks & Rec Tech Position.

Core Responsibilities
Technical Support
• Identify, report, and assist with maintenance and upkeep of makerspace spaces and equipment, including developing working knowledge of equipment operation and basic repair.
• Maintain accurate daily and weekly task logs, documenting all work completed, issues identified, and follow-up actions.
• Assist the Makerspace Maintenance Coordinator and Makerspace Education Lead in maintaining accurate inventory of parts, supplies, and consumables.

• Teach weekly workshops on the safe and effective use of makerspace equipment.
• Support employee training for Area 01, The 8, and The MILL, including planning and presenting sessions during staff training.

• Communicate cancellations of workshops and demonstrations to Makerspace Coordinator Team and workshop attendees via phone, email, and/or Slack.
• Respond to questions in Slack and repair requests through UW Connect or other forms.

• Assist with coordinating logistics for special event requests and collaborative programs with campus partners.
• Support event setup, breakdown, and equipment preparation.

Required Qualifications
• At least 3 months of experience (personal, professional, or volunteer) in one or more maker disciplines (e.g., 3D printing, laser cutting, sewing, woodworking, metalwork, ceramics, digital fabrication).
• At least 3 months of customer service experience and ability to interact effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications
• Previous experience interacting with HFS Amenities spaces, including The MILL, The 8, Area 01, or Fitness Center West.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Comfortable with professional written communication.
• Ability to provide tours and explain technical equipment and policies.
• Interest in advancing to specialized technical roles in laser cutting, 3D printing, or sewing.
Work Schedule

PURPOSE
The Marketing Insights Assistant supports the development of a more data-informed marketing practice by improving how we collect, track, and use performance data across digital channels. This role helps transition the team from manual reporting to more automated, scalable insights that inform decision-making across social media, email, and web experiences.
This is an evolving role designed for a curious, analytical student interested in marketing analytics, data systems, and digital measurement. The position offers hands-on experience building foundational skills in data pipelines, web analytics, and reporting.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Data Collection & Automation
• Support the collection and organization of marketing performance data across social and email platforms
• Assist in building and maintaining lightweight automated workflows to streamline recurring data pulls

Objective: The Student Office Assistant (OA) supports the operations of the HFS Administration unit
through administrative support of the HFS Central Office front desk operations, professional staff
members’ day-to-day workload, management of physical and digital resources and information, and
