Happy National Nutrition Month! What a perfect time to try a new habit to up your nutrition game. Lacy Anderson, our Nutrition & Wellness Specialist, has five recommendations you may want to consider:
1. Eat the rainbow: fill half of your plate with colorful fruits and vegetables to boost vitamins, fiber, and antioxidants.
2. Build balanced snacks: aim to pair a protein and fiber source like yogurt and berries or hummus and carrots. If your snack needs to be a little heartier, add a whole grain!
3. Try plant-based protein: nuts, seeds, beans, lentils, soy, and legumes are under-consumed sources of protein in the US. They’re nutritious, environmentally friendly and health-promoting!
4. Rethink your drink: swap out your sugary drinks for water. Start with just one if this feels overwhelming.
5. Don’t multi-task during meals: eating while being distracted may mean you eat too quickly, chew inadequately and miss your body’s satiety cues. Slow down and enjoy your meal.
