Business Community

 

The Residential Business Community is available for students who, as part of the University of Washington (UW) Foster School of Business, desire a living environment that complements and enhances their experience beyond the classroom. Students who choose to live in the Business Community will meet students with similar interests, have opportunities to interact with Foster School of Business staff and faculty, and participate in ongoing career development.

 

Business Community Activities May Include:

 

  • Floor dinners attended by faculty and local business leaders

  • Workshops, seminars and other activities coordinated by the Foster School of Business such as: Student Activities fairs (including the Fall Welcome in October), Speaker Series, UMCA Business Career Fair, Husky Networking Night, Finals Week study breaks, UW Business Week (including a keynote speaker, "Biz-B-Q", and other student-driven events), and annual town hall meeting

  • Meetings in the residence hall with Foster School of Business advisers and career counselors

  • A variety of social activities planned by the Resident Advisers and business students, such as trivia and movie nights, visits to local attractions, pumpkin carving and outdoor trips

  • Community service opportunities

 

Location Highlights

 

Business housing will be located on two floors of Haggett Hall. The two floors share a common lounge space. McCarty Hall currently has statistics tutoring four days a week as well as math and chemistry tutoring and is just up the path from Haggett Hall.

 

Amenities of Haggett Include:

 

  • Ethernet access in every room

  • A lounge with a grand piano and fireplace

  • Kitchenettes, laundry rooms and bike storage

  • Photography darkroom facilities

  • Large outdoor patio overlooking Lake Washington and the Cascade Mountains

  • Rick's Café: a student-run café in the building

  • Bed Size: 36" x 78"

  • All resident rooms are hexagonal, adding to the unique character of Haggett. Its main campus locations, in-house recreational facilities and views of Lake Washington and the Cascade Mountains make it a great place to call home

  • Disability access

  • Located between Ian's Domain to the north and 8 at McMahon to the south

  • Ian's Domain, an Internet café featuring 16 high-speed computers with Ethernet connections, and a lounge with a big-screen high definition TV

  • 8 at McMahon: from specialty salads to deluxe burgers, Pagliacci pizza to authentic Asian–something to satisfy everyone (seven dining concepts in all!)

If you would like to live in the Residential Business Community, please select the Residential Business Community in the Special Interest Community Preference portion of the housing application. Please apply as early as possible to increase your chances of being assigned to the Residential Business Community. Housing assignments are based on assignment priority and on date of application within priority groups. Please refer to Housing's website (here) for information on assignment priorities.

 

Preference is given to students who participate in the following Business School programs:

 

  • Freshman Direct

  • Early Admission Group (EAG)

  • Alliances for Learning and Vision for Underrepresented Americans (ALVA)

  • Business School Scholarship programs

  • Sophomores admitted to the Foster School of Business

 

Pre-business majors are encouraged to select the Residential Business Community on their housing application.

A request for placement in the Business Community will supersede a request for placement in other residence halls, and students may be assigned to a different room type than they would otherwise be assigned in order to accommodate their request to live in the Business Community.
