Charter

The Department of Housing and Food Services (HFS) contributes to the mission of the University of Washington by providing convenient, affordable student housing and quality food service to the University community. The Department's mission statement is "working together to enhance student life." Each area of HFS contributes to the mission and to creating a safe and welcoming environment for residents that complements and supports pursuit of their academic goals.

HFS is a self-sustaining, auxiliary unit of the University and does not receive any University, state, federal or other outside funds. Revenues from student housing, retail and residential food service, catering and conferences are the sole source of funds for debt service, capital improvements, and ongoing maintenance and operations.
